Where are Polar Monkeys cold plunges made?
All of our products are designed in the USA, expertly crafted overseas, and assembled in sunny Florida! Our headquarters are located in Florida, USA.
What is a chiller?
A chiller is the cooling engine behind your cold plunge. It brings water down to freezing temperatures and keeps it there, so you get consistent, effective cold therapy. Polar Monkeys chillers are ultra-quiet, app-controlled (residential), and built with powerful filtration and sanitation for a hassle-free plunging experience.
What’s the difference between the residential and commercial cold plunges?
Both deliver serious cold, but they’re built for different needs:
- Residential plunges are made for home use — perfect for daily recovery and personal wellness routines.
- Commercial plunges are built tougher, designed for heavy traffic in settings such as gyms, wellness studios, and recovery centers.
What power source does the chiller need?
Our chillers plug into a standard 120V outlet and require a 15-amp circuit. For best performance, we recommend using a dedicated outlet (no other devices connected).
Can my chiller heat the water too?
Yes - residential chillers include both cooling and heating modes. Our commercial chillers are designed for cooling only.
Barrel or Tub - which should I choose?
It all comes down to space, style, and how you like to cold plunge.
- Tub Cold Plunge (horizontal): Spacious, stretch-friendly, and a classic ice bath design. Ideal if you’ve got more room and want to lie back as you plunge.
- Barrel Cold Plunge (vertical): Compact, deep, and upright. Great for smaller spaces and full-body immersion - the water hits your shoulders.
Whichever you choose, you’re getting powerful cooling, sleek design, and a premium cold plunge experience.
Installation & setup
Can I set up my cold plunge indoors?
Yes! The BrainPod 2.0, Cyber Plunge, and Star Treatment 2.0 are fully insulated and suitable for indoor use. The Cyber Barrel is also fully insulated and designed for both indoor and outdoor settings. The Portal X, however, is not recommended for indoor use.
Note: some condensation is normal when using a cold plunge. If using indoors, we recommend placing your unit on a waterproof surface.
Do I need a plumber or electrician to set up my cold plunge?
Nope! Simply plug your cold plunge into a standard 120V outlet and use a hose to fill it up. Setup takes about 15 minutes, with no special tools or professionals needed. Follow the safety guidelines in our user guide here.
How long does setup take?
Residential plunges: ~15 minutes
Commercial plunges: ~20 minutes
Follow our video setup guides (residential or commercial), or user manuals (residential or commercial) to make it super easy.
Where should I place my chiller?
Our chillers are designed for indoor and outdoor use, but perform best under shade or cover. Allow approximately 2 feet of space around your chiller for airflow. Its small wheels and handles make it easy to move around!
Can I control the cold plunge with my phone?
Yes! All residential cold plunges can be remotely powered and temperature adjusted.
Using your cold plunge
Is the chiller loud?
Not at all! It runs extremely quietly when idle, and sounds similar to a small window AC unit (60-70dB) while actively cooling.
Should I turn my chiller off between uses?
No - our chiller is designed to run 24/7 for optimal performance and energy efficiency. For further instructions, watch our video tutorial: How to Operate your Polar Monkeys Chiller.
How cold/warm do your cold plunges get?
- Residential models cool down to 32°F (2.8°C), heat up to 107°F (41.6°C), and make ice at the push of a button.
- Commercial models also cool down to 37°F (2.8°C) but do not include heating. They’re built for heavy use in gyms and wellness centers.
Do I need to buy ice?
Nope! All our cold plunges come with a built-in chiller - no ice needed.
What are the benefits of cold plunging?
Studies show that cold plunging can:
- Increase dopamine and norepinephrine, improving mood and focus and boosting mental clarity.
- Decrease muscle soreness and inflammation post-exercise, supporting recovery.
- Strengthen the immune response and resilience to stress through regular exposure.
Just a few minutes a day can deliver powerful physical and mental benefits.
Cold Plunge best practices & safety
What is the ideal cold plunge temperature?
Most people tend to aim for 50–60°F (10–15°C), though individual preferences may vary. Remember to ease in gently if you’re just getting started.Disclaimer: Always consult your physician before starting cold plunging, especially if you have health concerns or underlying conditions.
How long should I stay in the plunge?
The short answer is, it depends! We recommend starting off with 2–3 minutes and building up to 10 minutes max. Everyone’s tolerance is different; always listen to your body and never push past your comfort zone.
Who shouldn’t use a cold plunge?
Cold plunging isn’t recommended for people with certain medical conditions, including:
- Heart or circulation issues
- High or low blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Raynaud’s disease
- Respiratory conditions
Always check with a healthcare provider before starting cold exposure if you have any concerns.
Can I plunge more than once a day?
You can, but it’s not necessary. Most people plunge either daily or a few times a week depending on their goals and how their body responds.
Should I cold plunge before or after exercise?
It depends on your goal. For an energizing boost, cold plunge before your workout. To ease sore muscles and support recovery, cold plunge after.
Weather & seasonal use
Can I leave my cold plunge or chiller outside in freezing temperatures?
- Cold Plunge Tub: Yes, our tub is safe to keep outdoors in freezing temperatures. Just make sure it’s fully drained to avoid ice damage (as water expands when it freezes!).
- Chiller: Our chillers can handle temperatures as low as 34°F (1°C) - that’s seriously cold. However, they are not freeze-proof. In freezing conditions, store your chiller indoors or in a sheltered space, and ensure all water is drained from the internal pipeline and water filter. We also strongly recommend running your chiller in heating mode in low ambient conditions, to avoid freezing.
Can my chiller handle hot weather?
Yes! Chillers operate in hot weather, even exceeding 107°F (40°C), though in this case cooling may slow slightly. Avoid enclosing the unit; proper airflow is essential.
Cleaning & maintenance
How do I change the water?
1) Turn off and unplug the chiller.
2) If the cold plunge is outdoors or in an area that can get wet, simply open the rear drain valve and let the water out. Otherwise, attach a garden hose for direct drainage to a suitable location.
3) Close the valve once drainage is complete.
4) Refill the cold plunge with fresh water to the appropriate level before turning the power back on.
Prefer a step-by-step visual? Watch our quick drainage video guide here.
How do I keep the water clean?
We recommend purchasing our sanitation kit and following its cleaning protocol, which keeps water clean for ~3 months. Without it, we recommend changing your water approximately every 2 weeks (depending on usage).
How often should I change the filter?
- Residential models: every 3-4 weeks
- Commercial models: every 3 months
Frequency may vary based on usage.
What maintenance is required for my cold plunge?
Maintenance is simple with Polar Monkeys. Use our sanitation kit to keep water clean for longer - otherwise, change the water every 2 weeks, depending on usage. Replace the filter cartridge every 3–4 weeks for residential models, and every 3 months for commercial systems (depending on usage). Clean the tub as needed, and keep it covered when not in use for optimal performance.

Troubleshooting
My chiller is blowing hot air - is that normal?
Yes - it’s a part of the cooling process. If heat seems excessive, let us know.
There’s a lock icon on the screen - how do I unlock it?
Press both arrows next to the chiller screen for 3 seconds until it beeps.
My water is cloudy or stained. What should I do?
Check you are cleaning and changing the filter as recommended. If the problem persists, try using a hose water filter when refilling your tub. This can help remove contaminants from the water source, which should improve the clarity of your water.
How do I disconnect the chiller without the water draining out?
After disconnecting the chiller, simply close the drain valve and place the disconnected hoses back into the tub. This way, any water that exits will flow back into the tub.
